2017 Loughborough Beer Festival
Welcome to Loughborough Beer Festival at the Polish Club Loughborough, for our 41st Festival. We are proud to be one of the longest running beer festivals in the Country. Few of the Breweries or beers available at the first festival are still around. Most of them would never have made it to a present day beer festival but in those days you were often just grateful to see real ale. Today we are spoilt for choice when it comes to ordering beer, there are so many breweries and more starting all the time.
There will be around 60 different real ales available at this festival, including many from within a 30 mile radius of Loughborough. Stouts and Porters are becoming increasingly popular so we have got a number of different ones for you to try. We have also managed to get some interesting beers from Kent plus, a rare sight these days, a beer matured in a wooden cask from Leatherbritches Brewery, right on the Leicestershire / Derbyshire border. There are a number of strong beers which will be more expensive due to the higher duty. To give you the opportunity to enjoy these without breaking the bank or getting too intoxicated, they will also be available in 1/3 pint measures.
There will also be a range of Cider and Perrys. Free soft drinks will be available for drivers. Thanks to Nelson, Muirhouse and Nottingham Breweries for helping to source most of the beer and to Andrew Reed at Charnwood Brewery for distributing flyers and posters. Thanks to Sean at the Needle & Pin Micro pub for donating a pin of their house cider.
Thursday remains a quiet night with free entry, devoted to just enjoying drinking and conversation. Live music will feature on Friday and Saturday nights.
On Friday the band is “The Blue Shift”,a blues band – fronted by vocalist Carla Simmons, saxophone (Nicky Parnell) and violin/cello (Cate Wray), backed up by Nick Wray on piano and accordion, Mark Wroe on bass and Stuart Wood on percussion. They play a mixture of original material and delta and classic blues covers.
The Saturday band is Ten2Ten. Nobby, Paul, John, and Mikey make up this four piece Band formed 10 years ago consisting of Guitar, Bass, Drums and vocals. covering songs from Thin Lizzy, Free, Bad Company, AC/DC, and much more as LOUD as you like. Get there early as they will be playing 8-10pm.
As usual there will be a commemorative half pint tankard which will be available to buy or hire. You wouldn’t expect to drink out of the same glass all evening in a pub, so why should a beer festival be any different. As in previous years we will be offering to exchange your dirty glass for a clean one, so that you can enjoy your beers in the best condition. Just bring your glass back to the entrance to exchange (commemorative stocks permitting).
As usual we will be raising money for Rainbows Childrens Hospice in Loughborough so please give generously. There will be a big red donations bucket at the entrance and a tombola Saturday afternoon.
Drinking beer makes you hungry so don’t forget to sample some of our excellent food sourced from local producers and Organic butchers.
